William C. Jones, Assistant Professor of Physics
The focus of my research to date has been related to various aspects of microwave background observations. I have had the pleasure of being intimately involved with three influential experimental efforts to study the properties of the CMB: the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP), the sub-orbital Boomerang long duration balloon experiment, and the Planck HFI instrument. In addition to those, I am now leading the SPIDER mission.
My contributions for these projects include detailed analysis of the optical systems of WMAP and Boomerang98, the development of the focal plane technology that enabled Boomerang03 and Planck HFI, the integration of the Boomerang experiment and the science analysis of the Boomerang data. My experimental efforts are now focused on the development of SPIDER. Curriculum Vitae (PDF)
