Many combustion devices feature a choked nozzle in order to improve device performance. Whilst choked nozzles are also known to play an important role in system stability, studies of choked combustor dynamics are nonetheless rare.
This talk therefore first examines the effect of choking the exit of a premixed laboratory combustor. A novel method for determining the reflection coefficient of exit nozzles in-situ is then proposed and validated. Finally, an existing low order dynamic model is extended to this problem, demonstrating the coupling between the flame dynamics, the combustor acoustics and the entropy field.
