Many are continuing their studies in graduate schools such as the University of Maryland, Cornell, UC Berkeley, Stanford, University of Texas/Austin, University of Cambridge, MIT, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Purdue, University of Michigan/Ann Arbor and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Other graduates will pursue careers in industry; some as engineers in such companies as Schlumberger and Bechtel Engineering. Some graduates will enter the field of management consulting in companies such as Bain & Company, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and Dean & Company. Others will join the field of financial consulting at Bridgewater Associates and Susquehanna International Group. One student anticipates a professional career playing hockey while another will join the U.S. National Rowing Team. Another will enter the Military in the United States Marine Corps. One student will begin a Pre-Med program. Two students will participate in Princeton in Africa and Princeton in Latin America.
We are very proud to announce that David Karp was selected as Valedictorian for the graduating Class of 2010 at Princeton. David has also been awarded a Churchill Scholarship and a Hertz Fellowship. He will pursue a Master of Advanced Studies in Applied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge next year and then will pursue a PhD at Stanford University studying computational fluid dynamics. Jillian Alfred has received a Fellowship at the University of Maryland and will pursue a Masters Degree. Margaret Byron has received a CiBER IGERT traineeship fellowship from UC Berkeley to pursue a PhD degree. Richard Harris has received a fellowship from Stanford University and will pursue a PhD degree. David Kwabi will pursue a Master’s degree with his fellowship from MIT. Mike Papageorge received a Research Assistantship to pursue a PhD program at Texas A&M. Mack Pasqual has received a Research Assistantship to pursue a Masters Degree at Purdue University. Maya Srinivasan has received a 2
Merit Scholarship and will pursue a Masters in Vocal Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Mack Pasqual has written a paper with Professor Clarence Rowley and Lindsey Brown entitled "Interactive Multimedia Demonstrations for Teaching Fluid Dynamics" which was presented at the American Physical Society, Division of Fluid Dynamics, Conference in November of 2008 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mike Papageorge’s thesis work in hypersonic turbulent boundary layers on rough walls will be included in a journal publication which is currently in progress. Mike is co-author.
A paper based on Alex Gasner’s thesis research in Nuclear Archaeology for Heavy-Water-Moderated Plutonium Production Reactors has been accepted for presentation at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) in July 2010; Publication of the main results are anticipated to appear in a peer-reviewed journal later this year.
28 students have received certificates from other programs which include Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Applications of Computing, Materials Science in Engineering, Sustainable Energy, Environmental Studies, Music Performance, Engineering Biology, Applied and Computational Mathematics, and Spanish Language Studies.
This year, our department participated in an exchange program with Oxford University. We have one student who has completed her final year of study at Princeton but will be graduating at Oxford this summer. We are pleased to have hosted Catherine Cleary.
