Torquato Receives Simons Fellowship in Theoretical Physics
Salvatore Torquato, MAE Associated Faculty, has been awarded a Simons Fellowship in Theoretical Physics. This is very competitive honorific to support a supplemental semester of leave to increase creativity and provide intellectual stimulation. Professor Torquato will research "Unifying Concepts in Physics and Geometry Via Ground-State Problems" during his leave from September 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.
Awards are based on the applicant's scientific accomplishment in the five-year period preceding the application and on a judgment of the potential scientific impact of the leave period.The program provides salary replacement for up to 50% of the Fellow's current academic year salary and, in addition, up to $25,000 for expenses related to the leave.
