Materials Processing and Characterization Lab
The materials processing and characterization lab is well equipped for work on powder mixing, high temperature ovens for sintering and heat treatment, grinding and polishing wheels for metallography and ceramography, a tripod polisher and a dimpler for TEM specimen prep, and a range of optical microscopes. The lab is used extensively for research on structural alloys, refractory ceramics, high temperature coatings, biomaterials, and laser/materials interactions.

This Buehler Ecomet 3 Variable Speed Grinder/Polisher is used to prepare samples prior to characterization.

This Buehler Isomet 4000 Linear Precision Saw is designed for cutting various types of materials with minimal sample deformation using a diamond impregnated saw blade.
