Lecture series explores American justice system, Oct. 1-4

A lecture series on "Crime and Justice: An Exploration of the American Justice System" will be presented in October on campus.

The series is being organized by Ideas in Action, a program dedicated to promoting issue awareness on campus through a series of theme weeks. The weeks are the result of the collaborative efforts of student organizations, performing arts groups, faculty, staff and alumni to provide an engaging series of debates, lectures, discussions and performances relating to current issues.

Here is the schedule:

Randall Kennedy, a 1977 Princeton graduate and a professor at Harvard Law School, will speak on "The Racial Profiling Controversy" at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in McCosh 50.

Michael Vatis, a 1985 Princeton graduate and director of the Institute for Security Technology Studies at Dartmouth College, will discuss "Fighting Terrorism in a Constitutional Democracy: Winning the War Without Losing Our Rights" at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in McCosh 50.

Peter Singer, the DeCamp Professor of Bioethics in the University Center for Human Values at Princeton, will present an address on "Voluntary Euthanasia: Physician-Assisted Suicide and the Sanctity of Human Life" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in McCosh 10.

Princeton's Whig-Cliosophic Society will hold a debate, "Reviewing the Honor System: Should the Honor Code Be Abolished?" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in McCosh 50.

Anthony Papa, an artist and advocate against the war on drugs, will present "A Prison-Art Exhibit" at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Frist 307.

The University Film Organization will show "Dead Man Walking," the 1995 motion picture about capital punishment starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn, at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Frist 302.

The events are being co-sponsored by the Department of Politics, University Public Lectures Series, Projects Board and Office of the Dean of Student Life, and the Office of the Vice President for Campus Life.
