Scoles takes top chemistry honor

Chemistry professor Giacinto Scoles has won the 2002 American Chemical Societys Peter Debye Award in Physical Chemistry, the highest honor for physical chemistry given by the ACS.

The prize recognizes outstanding experimental and theoretical research in physical chemistry, a field that combines aspects of chemistry and physics to build models and empirical studies. It carries a $5,000 award, a certificate and reimbursed travel to the ACS national meeting in April 2002, where Scoles will receive official recognition.

Past recipients of the prestigious honor, first given in 1962, include several Nobel Prize winners.
