A female senior at the University likely broke both of her legs at about 9:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, after falling while attempting to reach the University Chapel 's far northeast turret to look at the view. Shortly more than an hour later, the student, who was in stable condition, was rescued and taken to a Trenton hospital for treatment.
The student, who was walking through narrow passageways inside the chapel, fell through a grate and was lodged for about one hour before being rescued by local fire officials. According to her roommate, the student had been to the turret previously and wanted to show another student the view. The turret is not publicly accessible.
After the student fell, the other student went for help and immediately called Public Safety, which alerted local authorities. President Shirley M. Tilghman and members of the University emergency response team were on the scene. An investigation is being conducted.
