Flu and meningitis shots available to students, faculty and staff, Nov. 6-7

University Health Services will be sponsoring a flu and meningitis immunization program from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 6-7, in the Frist Campus Center Multipurpose Room.

The University will be subsidizing most of the expense of the flu vaccinations. Faculty and staff will be asked to pay $5 for a flu vaccination. Partners and children (over the age of 17) will be charged a reduced fee of $15 for flu vaccinations. Meningitis shots will be available for an additional $85 each.

Influenza (flu) virus can spread rapidly among students and staff. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that individuals who want to reduce their risk of contracting flu consider being vaccinated each year.

Although meningitis remains a rare disease, the number of cases has risen in recent years, with about one third of these cases occurring in college campuses. All undergraduates who have not already done so should consider receiving this immunization.

For more information about bacterial meningitis, influenza or the vaccines, contact VACCESSHealth toll free at 1-877-482-2237.

Appointments are not necessary. Payments may be made with cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or personal check payable to VACCESSHealth.
