Visiting lecturer nominated as ambassador to Afghanistan

President Bush has nominated Robert Finn, a visiting lecturer in Near Eastern studies at Princeton, as ambassador to Afghanistan.

Finn was ambassador to Tajikistan from 1998 to 2001. He served at the U.S. Embassy in Croatia, opened the U.S. Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1992 and was deputy coordinator of the Kuwait task force during the Gulf War.

Finn earned master's and doctoral degrees in Near Eastern studies from Princeton in 1976 and 1978, respectively. His appointment requires Senate approval.
