Posted July 25, 2002; 05:30 p.m.
The Office of Information Technology will hold an event on Friday, July 26, to launch the use of new digital certificates.
OIT expects digital certificates will become an important means of electronically signing official University documents and for encrypting (to make private between sender and receiver) official University documents in the coming years.
The University's certificate authority will be signed by the Corporation for Research and Educational Networking . OIT staff will hand the "private key" for the University's certificate over to Betty Leydon, vice president for information technology, and Peter McDonough, general counsel.
The Web broadcast may be accessed from the WebMedia page at 2:30 p.m.
