Turkish cultural festival takes place on campus, March 4-31

"Turkiye," a festival of Turkish culture, takes place on campus March 4-31. The events are presented by the Council of International Graduate Students, the International Center and the Turkish Students' Association. The festival started with a month-long poster/photo exhibit on the 100 level of Frist, featuring the photography of Melford Bolick and Remzi Gumus.

On Thursday, March 7, Professor Heath Lowry, the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Professor of Ottoman and Modern Turkish Studies at Princeton, will give a talk entitled "The Apex of Ottoman Artistic Expression: Husnuhat (Beautiful Writing)" at 4.30 p.m. in Room 302, Frist Campus Center following a reception at 4 p.m.
Raks Odalisque
, Princeton's Middle Eastern Dance Troupe, will give a performance after the lecture.
The Graduate College Coffee House will sponsor a celebration entitled "40 Days, 40 Nights" featuring Turkish music and food.

On Friday, March 8, in conjunction with the
Women's Center
, there will be a social at Cafe Vivian at 4 p.m., followed by a screening of the movie "Conversations across the Bosphorous" at 5 p.m on the large TV in Frist 100 level, both in celebration of International Women's Day. A second screening of the movie will be held at 7 p.m. in 101 McCormick.

Highlighting Turkish culture and arts for the rest of March will be a Turkish movie series, starting on March 8, with "Eskiya - the Bandit" at 8.30 pm in 185 Nassau, and continuing with movies until March 30.
- Dining Services is complementing the celebration of Turkish culture with samples of Turkey's famous cuisine at the "Food for Thought" counter in Frist this week.
