Faculty members discuss looking at photographs, April 4

A panel of four photographers and critics will show slides and reflect on the ways of looking at photographs at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in 101 McCormick.

The four speakers, all faculty members at Princeton, are: Carol Armstrong, art and archaeology; Eduardo Cadava, English; Emmet Gowin, visual arts; and Michael Jennings, Germanic languages and literatures.

Each will present a photograph and speak briefly about how to "read" it. The panelists will then lead an audience discussion about the selected works and the art of photography more generally.

Gowin is an eminent photographer whose work is part of many museum collections. Armstrong, Cadava and Jennings are scholars who have written about photography. The event is sponsored by the Council for the Humanities .
