Asgedom to discuss journey from war-torn homelands, March 26

Author and motivational speaker Mawi Asgedom will discuss his family's journey from war-torn Eritrea and Ethiopia at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the Carl Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding .
Asgedom was born to an Eritrean father and an Ethiopian mother. He and his family fled their homelands when he was 3 and lived in a Sudanese refugee camp for three years. After immigrating to the United States, he overcame cultural and financial challenges to earn a scholarship to Harvard University.
Asgedom wrote a memoir, "Of Beetles and Angels: A True Story of the American Dream," which was published in 2002. He has since delivered lectures in more than 20 states.
The lecture is sponsored by Community House , the Student Volunteers Council and the Pace Center for Community Service. It is free and open to the public.
