Lecture planned on peace in the Middle East, Nov. 6

"Prospects for Peace: The Vital Role of Civil Society in Bringing Democracy, Justice and Prosperity to Palestine and Israel" is the title of a lecture set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in McCosh 46.
Speaking will be Mustafa Barghouthi, secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative -- a grassroots democratic opposition movement in the realm of Palestinian domestic politics co-founded with the late scholar Edward Said and others.
A medical doctor, Barghouthi also is director of the Health, Development, Information and Policy Institute based in Ramallah. He will present his view of current conditions within the West Bank and Gaza. He also will discuss future prospects for peace and the vital role civil society should play in bringing democracy and peace to the region.
The event is sponsored by the Princeton Committee for a Free Palestine and the Institute for the Transregional Study of the Contemporary Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia .
