Israeli professor to speak on Arab-Israeli conflict, Feb. 5

A lecture on"The Islamization of the Arab-Israeli Conflict" is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Bowl 1, Robertson Hall. Meir Litvak, senior research fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies and senior lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern and African History at Tel Aviv University, will deliver the talk.

Litvak, an expert on modern Shi'i history and Palestinian politics, has participated in numerous international conferences and colloquia. He also is the author of the book, "Shi'i Scholars of 19th-Century Iraq: The 'Ulama' of Najaf and Karbala,'" (1998) and numerous journal articles and chapters in books on topics including the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hamas, Islam, Palestinian identity and Jihad.

The lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs , the Program in Jewish Studies , the Center for Jewish Life and the Program in Near Eastern Studies .
