Gently used clothing needed, Jan. 12-19

Members of the University community will have the opportunity to share some holiday spirit through a drive to benefit the Hire Attire Boutique, an organization that collects "gently used" business clothes for men and women.

On weekdays from Jan.12 through Jan. 19, items may be taken to the OIT Training Room at the Armory (Washington Road side) between 8 and 9 a.m. and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The organization needs all types of business and business-casual clothing in good condition, including suits, dress slacks, khakis, dress shirts, ties, belts, jackets, blazers, sweaters, dresses, coats and accessories. Donations are tax deductible.

Hire Attire is part of the New Brunswick-based Adult Learning Center. The clothing goes to people who are entering or re-entering the workforce after completing a New Jersey job training program.

The drive is being coordinated by the offices of the associate provost for institutional equity and community and state affairs. For more information or to volunteer to assist with the clothing drive, contact Helen Thigpen in community and state affairs at (609) 258-3204.

The clothing drive is just one of several community service initiatives being coordinated through the Office of Community and State Affairs. Others include holiday gift outreach to "adopted" families and a new toy drive. The office also is compiling a list of outreach projects undertaken by various departments on campus. Information on these and other year-round volunteer opportunities was e-mailed Nov. 22 to University office heads and is available online.
