Oliver Stone to discuss Castro film, May 7

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone will speak following a screening of "Comandante," his first documentary on Fidel Castro, at 8 p.m. Friday, May 7, in McCosh 10.

Stone's most recent film on Castro, "Looking for Fidel," will be shown at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, in McCosh 46. "Looking for Fidel" is currently airing on HBO.

"Comandante" aired on HBO last spring and has never been publicly viewed in the United States since. The documentary was filmed in February 2002, when Stone traveled to Havana to meet with the Cuban leader. Among the subjects discussed are the Bay of Pigs invasion, President Kennedy's assassination, the Cuban Missile Crisis, religion, allegations of torture and repression of homosexuals by Cuba's government and the Elian Gonzales custody dispute.
