Duke University has announced that it has selected George McLendon, chair of Princeton's department of chemistry, as dean of the faculty of Arts and Sciences, which is Duke's core academic unit. Duke reported that his appointment will begin July 1.
McLendon, who came to Princeton in 1995, is the Russell Wellman Moore Professor of Chemistry. In addition to strengthening the faculty and programs in the chemistry department, McLendon has served the broader Princeton community through his service on the University Priorities Committee and the Faculty Advisory Committee on Appointments and Advancements.
"George has done an excellent job as chair of our chemistry department and as a member of the faculty at Princeton," said Dean of the Faculty David Dobkin. "I personally have enjoyed working with him in a variety of capacities during his time here. While we are very sorry to see him leave, we wish him well in this new endeavor."
