Film documents South African freedom music, April 16

"Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony" will be shown at 4 p.m. Friday, April 16, in the Rockefeller-Mathey Theater. A discussion with the director, Lee Hirsch, will follow the screening.
The film tells the story of black South African freedom music and documents the role it played in the battle against apartheid. It was the winner of the Audience Award and Freedom of Expression Award at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.

At 8 p.m. Friday, South African singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela, who appears in the film, will be a special guest at a concert by Oliver Mtukudzi, a legendary figure in contemporary African music, and his band, The Black Spirits, at the McCarter Theatre Center.
