Discussion planned on Rwandan genocide, April 18
Posted April 15, 2004; 06:16 p.m.
A student-led discussion on the 10-year anniversary of the Rwandan genocide is planned for 8 p.m. Sunday, April 18, in the Whig Senate Chamber.
Speakers will attempt to address some of the most sensitive questions raised by the tragedy: Should the United States have intervened? What more responsibility does the Western world bear in this atrocity? What precedent must this set for the future of humanitarian intervention and U.S. interventionist policy abroad? And how far do present genocide conventions go, and is that far enough?
The discussion will be led by juniors Katy Glenn, Tisa Sherry and Tom Trapnell. The event is sponsored by the International Relations Council of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society.
