Princeton faculty members Miguel Centeno and Jeremy Adelman , along with the University of Pennsylvania's Ian Lustick, will participate in a panel discussion titled "An Examination of Karl Polanyi's 'The Great Transformation'" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in 1 Robertson Hall.
The discussion, the second in a series on "60 Years Later: Critical Books of the 20th Century," celebrates the 60th anniversary of the publication of "The Great Transformation" (1944). The book is considered one of the basic works on the relationship between the state and the economy, suggesting a complex interaction between political rules and economic outcomes.
The event is sponsored by the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, the Council of the Humanities, the University Center for Human Values and the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions.
