Lippincott returns for concert at chapel, March 27

Former Principal University Organist Joan Lippincott will return to the University Chapel for a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27.

Her program is titled "Sinfonia," after her popular recording of the same name. She has taken organ obbligato movements from J.S. Bach's cantatas and arranged them in appropriate fast-slow-fast sequences to produce three concertos. Lippincott will be joined by the Princeton Chapel Camerata, an orchestra of strings, oboes and harpsichord. General admission is $20; students are admitted free.

Preceding the concert from 4 to 5 p.m., there will be a free presentation on "The Image of Bach" in the Chapel crypt. Teri Noel Towe, a 1970 Princeton graduate, will examine portrait images of Bach and discuss how our contemporary understanding of the composer was established. The session will also include a student performance of Bach's music for the solo violin.

The event is sponsored by the Office of Chapel Music .
