Discussion planned on 'opting out,' March 23

A discussion on "The Opt Out Revolution: Are Women Choosing to Leave the Workforce?" is planned for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, in 307 Frist Campus Center.
Earlier this year, Princeton alumna Lisa Belkin wrote a piece for The New York Times Magazine that documented the stories of successful Princeton women graduates who had chosen to opt out of their careers to care for their children. The March 23 discussion will look at whether this choice is one that professional women are being forced to make because of institutional constraints or one that women are willing and happy to make.
Two Princeton faculty members will respond to The Times piece: Karen McGuinness, lecturer in public and international affairs; and Sara Curran, assistant professor of sociology. Discussion will follow.
