Princeton salutes Gutmann

Princeton Provost Amy Gutmann, who will assume the presidency at the University of Pennsylvania in July, was saluted in a recent ceremony attended by members of the Princeton administration, faculty, staff and student body.

As part of the ceremony, the Office of the Dean of the Faculty produced a brief video celebrating Gutmann's career at Princeton, where she has been a faculty member since 1976 and provost since 2001. The video can be viewed online on the Office of Information Technology's Web site.

Gutmann, a renowned political philosopher, also served as Princeton's dean of the faculty from 1995 to 1997 and as academic adviser to the president from 1997 to 1998. She was the founding director of the University Center for Human Values, a multidisciplinary center that supports undergraduate and graduate teaching, a visiting fellows program, publication series and public discussions centered around ethics and human values issues.
