Composers' Ensemble celebrates Perle's birthday, May 10

The Composers' Ensemble will give a birthday concert for composer and music theorist George Perle at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in Fine Hall's Taplin Auditorium.
The concert, which marks Perle's 90th birthday, will feature performances by soprano Lucy Shelton; music group eighth blackbird; violinist Curtis Macomber; and pianists Michael Boriskin, Michael Brown, Seymour Lipkin and Molly Morkoski.
Many of the world's major orchestras, including the Boston Philharmonic, Philadelphia Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic, have performed Perle's compositions. His accolades include a Pulitzer Prize and a MacArthur Fellowship.Perle, professor emeritus of music at the City University of New York, has written seven books, including "The Operas of Alban Berg."
