Lecture focuses on strategies for peace in Middle East, Dec. 12

Gilad Ben-Nun, Middle-East program officer for the United Nations Development Program and West Bank coordinator for Peace Now, will speak at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, in 16 Robertson Hall.
His topic is "U.N. Engagement With the Israeli and Palestinian Civil Societies: Participatory Strategies and the Co-Partial Approach."
Ben-Nun directs the development program's civil society work in Israel. As a senior research fellow at the U.N. Institute for Disarmament Research in Geneva in 2001, he helped formulate a blueprint for a long-term U.N. partnership with Israeli and Palestinian societies to provide support for potential conflict resolutions. He has since been working to implement these ideas.
Ben-Nun also is affiliated with Peace Now, an Israeli
nongovernmental organization that serves as the focal point for
information gathering, analysis and publication of data regarding the
ongoing impact of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands in
the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
