Malkiel, masters to discuss residential colleges, Feb. 10

Dean of the College Nancy Malkiel and two college masters will lead a discussion on the new four-year residential college system from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the Chancellor Green Rotunda.
Malkiel will make a presentation and answer questions along with
Antoine Kahn, master of Mathey College, and Harvey Rosen, designated
master of the new Whitman College.
Because the size of Princeton's undergraduate student body is being
increased by 500 students by 2012, the University is in the process of
enhancing the residential college system to better serve students as
well as to provide them with more options.
The system currently includes five two-year colleges that are the
center of residential life and an important focus of academic
activities for freshmen and sophomores. The new plan, created by
faculty, students and administrators, establishes three four-year
residential colleges and pairs them with three two-year residential
colleges.
The new college system begins in fall 2007 with the opening
of Whitman College and the conversion of Mathey College into a
four-year college. Butler College will become a four-year college in
fall 2009 after many of the existing Butler dormitories have been torn
down and replaced with new construction.
The discussion is being hosted by the class of 2009 and is open to all
members of the University community. Refreshments will be served.
