Author Packer to focus on Iraq war, March 28

Journalist George Packer will discuss his latest book, "Assassin's
Gate," which examines the U.S. war in Iraq, at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March
28, in 16 Robertson Hall.
Packer has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since May 2003. In
addition to his coverage of Iraq, he has written about conflicts in
Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast and about the Al-Jazeera news channel.
Packer was awarded two Overseas Press Club awards in 2003 for his
coverage of the war in Iraq and the civil war in Sierra Leone.
Packer also has written for The New York Times Magazine, Dissent,
Mother Jones, Harper's and other publications, and has taught writing
at several colleges and universities. His other books include "The
Village of Waiting," about his experience in Africa, and "Blood of the
Liberals," which won the 2001 Robert F. Kennedy Book Award. He also has
written two novels, "The Half Man" and "Central Square."
