Symposium focuses on emergency management, April 7

Community leaders and elected officials will discuss "Managing
Emergency Management" at Princeton University's 2006 Symposium on New
Jersey Issues from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday, April 7, in Dodds
Auditorium, Robertson Hall.
The symposium will feature
presentations by academic and professional experts in the field,
followed by a legislator panel discussion responding to the information
presented in the first half of the program.
Richard Cañas, the
new director of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and
Preparedness and a former director of the White House's National
Security Council under presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton,
will deliver introductory remarks.
Other speakers will include:

John Farmer, former state attorney general and former senior counsel
and team leader for the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon
the United States.
• Christopher Kojm, lecturer in public and
international affairs at Princeton and former deputy executive director
of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States;
• Joseph Picciano, director of region two of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
• Patrick Brannigan, former deputy chief of management and operations in the Office of the New Jersey Governor.
The legislator panel discussion will be moderated by New Jersey political and financial consultant Brendan "Tom" Byrne Jr.
The symposium is sponsored by the University's Policy Research Institute for the Region, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and Office of Community and State Affairs.
