Lecture focuses on faith-based organizations, April 4

"Faith-Based Organizations and the Public Good" is the title of a
lecture scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in 16 Robertson Hall.
The lecture will be delivered by Amy Sherman, a senior fellow and
director of the Faith in Communities Initiative at the Sagamore
Institute for Policy Research and a senior fellow at the International
Justice Mission. As part of her work with the Sagamore Institute, she
plays a leadership role in the national Faith and Service Technical
Education Network, a nonprofit initiative to strengthen and support
faith-based organizations.
Sherman is the founder and former executive director of Charlottesville
Abundant Life Ministries, an urban outreach initiative. She has written
several books, including "Restorers of Hope: Reaching the Poor in Your
Community With Church-based Ministries That Work" and "The Soul of
Development: Biblical Christianity and Economic Transformation in
Guatemala." Sherman's articles have appeared in numerous publications,
including Policy Review, First Things, Christianity Today and the
Chronicle of Philanthropy.
The lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and
International Affairs and the Center for the Study of Religion as part
of the "Crossroads of Religion and Politics" series.
