A cappella group to present 'KatzenJam 2006,' April 8

The Princeton Katzenjammers a cappella group will present "KatzenJam 2006" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall.

The Katzenjammers, founded in 1973, are the country's oldest coed collegiate a cappella group, with a repertoire spanning from their signature vocal jazz to pop to classical.

The group performs regularly in arch sings around campus and has toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Every four years, the Katzenjammers bring a "jamboree" concert to the Richardson stage, incorporating a wide variety of a cappella music from their domestic and international tours.

"KatzenJam 2006" will feature contributions from a student jazz trio and from the diSiac Dance Company, which will perform a ballet piece accompanying the Katzenjammers' rendition of "When I Fall in Love." The Katzenjammers also will perform a composition, "Folk Tropes," by Paul Lansky, the William Shubael Conant Professor of Music.

The Katzenjammers were founded by students who sought to establish a unique identity among existing single-sex a cappella groups. The group has produced several albums since its formation.

Tickets for "KatzenJam 2006" are $6 for students and senior citizens and $10 for others. They can be purchased online through University Ticketing or by calling the Richardson ticket office at (609) 258-5000.

'Enchanting' triple world premiere set for April 8-10 .

"An Evening of Enchantment," featuring world premieres of three dance pieces made possible by the collaboration of students and faculty members from Princeton University's Department of Music and Lewis Center for the Arts, will be presented Thursday through Saturday, April 8-10, in the Berlind Theatre at the McCarter Theatre Center.

Chamber ensemble joins students with professional musicians .

Bringing Princeton students and leading professional musicians together on stage, the University's Richardson Chamber Players will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28, in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall.

Creative collaboration produces original opera .

Students in Princeton's Atelier program, which brings guest artists to campus to collaborate with students and faculty, will direct and perform "The Antient Concert," an original chamber opera written by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon and composer Daron Hagen. The performance, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in the Berlind Theatre.

Sympoh presents spring show, April 20-22 .

Sympoh Urban Arts Crew, a student breakdancing group, will perform its annual spring show, "Mission: Sympossible," at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 20-22, at the Frist Campus Center theater. A matinee performance also is scheduled for 2 p.m. April 22.
