HUD secretary addresses smart growth, April 17

The head of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will present a talk on urban growth at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, in Dodds Auditorium, Robertson Hall.

HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson's lecture is titled "Smart Growth: Toward a New Urban Policy."

Jackson joined the agency in June 2001 as deputy secretary and chief operating officer and was confirmed as secretary in March 2004.

Prior to joining HUD, Jackson served as president of American Electric Power-TEXAS and previously held numerous positions dealing with urban housing issues. He was president of the city of Dallas' housing authority, director of the Department of Public and Assisted Housing in Washington, D.C., and chair of the District of Columbia Redevelopment Land Agency Board.

The lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Program in Latin American Studies. It is part of a series of events celebrating the Wilson School's 75th anniversary.
