Jazz concert to support Katrina initiative, April 20
Posted April 19, 2006; 11:20 a.m.
A free jazz concert featuring New Orleans pianist Wilson "Willie Tee" Turbinton will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Firestone Library courtyard as part of a student initiative to aid the city devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Turbinton, a lifelong New Orleans resident who lost his home to Katrina, served as a visiting lecturer last fall in Princeton's music department. He will perform alongside freshman saxophonist Rob Weiss, one of the organizers of the Katrina Project, a student group dedicated to raising awareness of the problems of poverty and inequality in America.
The concert is part of series of events sponsored by the Katrina Project to raise awareness for the group's "Levee for Life," a charitable initiative to raise money for the New Orleans Public Library.
The concert is co-sponsored by the Pace Center.
