Everglades and politics is topic, April 24

Michael Grunwald, an award-winning environmental reporter for the Washington Post, will discuss "The Everglades, Florida and the Politics of Paradise" at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, in 16 Robertson Hall.

Grunwald's new book, "The Swamp: The Everglades, Florida and the Politics of Paradise," explores the evolution of the Everglades from 4,500 acres of liquid wasteland to what is now considered a national treasure. The book discusses the destruction and possible resurrection of the Everglades, man's abuse of nature in southern Florida and efforts to make amends.

Grunwald has numerous prizes for his work at the Post, including the George Polk Award for national reporting, the Worth Bingham Award for investigative reporting and the Society of Environmental Journalists award for his reporting on the Everglades .

The lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
