Stone named Gilder Lehrman History Scholar

Princeton junior Charles Stone is one of 15 students nationwide chosen to participate in an intensive summer program sponsored by the New York-based Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

As a Gilder Lehrman History Scholar, Stone will receive research training, attend seminars with eminent historians and tour rare archives. Each student will have the opportunity to publish original research resulting from the six-week summer program.

This year’s class will research the correspondence, some of which is unpublished, of 19th-century abolitionist Frederick Douglass in the Gilder Lehrman Collection.

Stone, who is from Greensboro, N.C., was chosen from more than 300 undergraduate applicants representing 195 colleges and universities nationwide.
