Vibraphonist to join jazz groups in concert, May 13

Renowned jazz vibraphonist Bryan Carrott will join the Princeton
University Concert Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Composers Collective in a
concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander
The performers, directed by Anthony D.J. Branker, will present "The Commission Project: New Music Composed for the Princeton University Jazz Program." The concert will feature a number of works that were written for the University Concert Jazz Ensemble over the years by such celebrated jazz composers as saxophonists Jimmy Heath and Bob Mintzer and trumpeter Michael Philip Mossman. The performance also will feature the world premiere of a newly commissioned work for big band by saxophonist Ralph Bowen, as well as new compositions by students in the University Jazz Composers Collective and Branker.
Carrott, who also is a mallet percussionist, pianist and vocalist, has recorded and performed throughout Europe, Japan and the United States with many well-known jazz musicians. He has been featured as a soloist with Germany's WDR Orchestra conducted by Gunther Schuller and has been recognized by Down Beat magazine's International Critics' Poll for a number of years.
