Posted June 15, 2006; 04:29 p.m.
Theodore Shaw, director-counsel and president of the NAACP Legal
Defense and Educational Fund, is slated to speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday,
June 20, in 16 Robertson Hall.
The session is titled "Preserving Power, Protecting the Katrina Vote: A
Conversation With Theodore Shaw." The event, which is free and open to
the public, is sponsored by Princeton Committee of the Legal Defense
Fund and hosted by the University's Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration Committee.
The Legal Defense Fund has implemented a multi-faceted plan to ensure
the participation of displaced voters in the election process in the
area affected by last year's hurricanes. The plan includes litigation,
publicity, education and poll monitoring. Shaw is expected to discuss
the challenges voters faced in the recent elections and the prospects
for voters in the upcoming fall elections.
