Research symposium set for Oct. 21

The Princeton Research Symposium,
designed to showcase work by graduate students and other researchers
from multiple disciplines, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 21, in the Friend Center Convocation Room.
The event will include opening remarks at 9 a.m. by Princeton President
Shirley M. Tilghman and a keynote address, titled "Grand Challenges
Integrating the Environment, Technology and Society," at 4 p.m. by
Steven Pacala, the Petrie Professor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
and director of the Princeton Environmental Institute.
Posters explaining various research projects will be displayed during
the symposium, and researchers will talk with attendees about their
work. Research topics featured in the symposium will include: the
future of fusion technology; the culture of competition among child
athletes; the design of new antibiotics; the use of animal models to
help humans defeat kidney disease; and the intersection between
anthropology and music.
The symposium is open to the public. It is sponsored by the Graduate School, Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni, McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning, and Graduate Student Government.
