Irish comedy set for Nov. 10-11, 16-18

A cast of Princeton undergraduates will perform the classic Irish
comedy "The Playboy of the Western World" by John Millington Synge at 8
p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10-11, and Thursday through Saturday,
Nov. 16-18, at the Berlind Theatre.
When "Playboy" premiered at the Abbey Theatre in 1907, a riot broke out
in the theater because of what many in the audience viewed as a
misrepresentation of rural Ireland. But the play is now regarded as a
masterpiece of modern comedy.
The Princeton production will be presented by the Program in Theater and Dance, which is part of the University Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. It will be directed by Tim Vasen, a lecturer in theater and dance.
The theater and dance program is presenting "Playboy" in celebration of
the new Leonard L. Milberg Irish Theater Collection in Firestone
Library. Milberg, a 1953 alumnus, donated to Princeton more than 1,000
plays, photographs, playbills and other works documenting the history
of Irish theater dating back 160 years.
