The Highsteppers, Princeton University's step team, will present its second annual "Step-Off" competition at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall.
The event is expected to draw collegiate step teams from throughout the Northeast to compete for prizes and the right to be called No. 1. The show also will feature guest performances by Princeton's Black Arts Company: Dance and the Sesame Street Crew.
Founded in March 2003, the Highsteppers specialize in step, a traditionally African art form that was made popular in the United States by historically black fraternities and sororities. Stepping involves using one's body and surroundings to bring a variety of rhythms and beats to life.
Tickets are free with a Princeton University ID or $8 for the general public. They can be obtained at the Frist Campus Center ticket office or online through University Ticketing.
The Step-Off is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, the Undergraduate Student Government Projects Board and the Center for African American Studies.
