Thomas Ricks, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for The Washington Post, will speak on "The Iraq War as a Failure of the American System" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Dodds Auditorium, Robertson Hall.
Ricks has covered the U.S. military for the Post since 2000 and previously covered the same subject for The Wall Street Journal for 17 years. A Pulitzer winner for his work at both newspapers, Ricks has reported on U.S. military activities in Somalia, Haiti, Korea, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Kuwait, Turkey, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Ricks' book, "Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq," explores the Bush administration's planning and execution of the 2003 invasion of Iraq and argues that the United States was poorly prepared to deal with the ramifications of the invasion.
The lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
