Bellour to lead seminars on body of cinema

April 7, 9 and 14, 2008, 6:30 p.m. 10 East Pyne
Raymond Bellour, director of research emeritus at the Centre National de Recherches Scientifiques in Paris, will present three seminars on "The Body of Cinema: Hypnoses, Emotions, Animalities" starting Monday, April 7. Each will begin at 6:30 p.m. in 10 East Pyne.

The dates and topics will be:

  • Monday, April 7 -- "Cinema as Hypnosis."
  • Wednesday, April 9 -- "Unfolding the Emotions."
  • Monday, April 14 -- "The Animal Between Symbol and Intensities."
Bellour was the primary developer of film analysis and is the author of a seminal book on that topic. He has conducted detailed studies of Alfred Hitchcock's classic Hollywood films -- including "North by Northwest" and "The Birds" -- as well as of works by Howard Hawks and D.W. Griffith.

The lectures are part of the Gauss Seminars in Criticism.
