Posted April 3, 2008; 07:30 p.m.
The Princeton University Concert Jazz Ensemble and Juilliard Jazz Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Matthews Theatre of the McCarter Theatre Center.
Each group will play its own set and then will collaborate for a special encore: Duke Ellington's "New Orleans Suite." The Princeton set will feature music from senior Julia Brav.
The Princeton University Concert Jazz Ensemble, directed by Anthony D.J. Branker, is dedicated to the performance of the historically significant works of Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. It has been joined in its concerts by such renowned artists as Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Slide Hampton, Benny Carter, Terence Blanchard and Jimmy Heath.
The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, directed by Carl Allen, performs music from across the spectrum of jazz styles -- a broad range that includes originals from band members, as played by some of the hottest young musicians.
This event is made possible with the support of the Princeton's Department of Music and the Lewis Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $15, $25 and $30 for general admission or $7.50 for students. They are available online or by calling (609) 258-2787.
