Ceremony marks start of the year

Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, 3 p.m. University Chapel

The University will mark the beginning of the academic year with Opening Exercises at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, in the University Chapel.

The annual interfaith service will include an address by President Shirley M. Tilghman and the recognition of academic achievements of undergraduate students.

For the first time this year, freshmen will process into the chapel by the residential college they have joined.

Following the ceremony, members of the class of 2012 will participate in a "pre-rade" from the chapel through FitzRandolph Gate, giving them the opportunity to officially enter the campus to start their undergraduate experience and to be greeted by fellow Princetonians.

Opening Exercises will be simulcast in 101 McCormick Hall and McCosh 10. The service also will be archived for later viewing.

Classes begin on Thursday, Sept. 11.
