Danish U.S. ambassador to speak on EU

"The EU as a Rising Superpower" is the title of a lecture by Denmark's ambassador to the United States, Friis Arne Petersen, set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in 16 Robertson Hall.
Petersen was the head of Denmark's foreign ministry from 1997 until 2005, when he assumed his current position as U.S. ambassador. He has had a long career in the Danish Foreign Service, with senior roles in diplomatic relations with Russia, the Balkans and other areas of Europe. His areas of focus have included economic assistance to Russia and Central and Eastern Europe as well as responsibility for Denmark's policies on EU and NATO enlargement. He served as Denmark's trade representative in the EU trade policy committee from 1995 to 1997.
