Smiley to speak at Friends of the Library dinner

Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, 6 p.m. Icahn Laboratory

Television and radio talk show host Tavis Smiley will be the featured speaker at the Friends of the Princeton University Library's annual winter dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Icahn Laboratory. Smiley will offer his thoughts on the 2008 presidential election and on American culture and politics generally.

The dinner is a by-invitation event that is open to individuals who are or become members of the friends organization. Members of the public are invited to join the friends in advance in order to receive an invitation to the dinner. In addition to his radio and television work, Smiley is a philanthropist and has written 11 books, including his bestselling memoir "What I Know for Sure: My Story of Growing Up in America." He also edited the bestselling "Covenant With Black America."
