James Yan:
So, a lot of people wonder, how did we
James Yan:
come up with the name "Triple 8"?
James Yan:
Well in Chinese, eight is pronouced "ba,"
James Yan:
which sounds a lot like the Chinese word "fa,"
James Yan:
which means prosperity.
James Yan:
Therefore, "Triple 8" is three times the prosperity.
Shelby Gai:
If there is such thing as a typical East Asian dance group,
Shelby Gai:
Triple 8 is definitely not it. College is both a time and place to
Shelby Gai:
try new things and broaden your horizons, and so much of Triple 8
Shelby Gai:
embodies just that. Our members are involved in a variety
Shelby Gai:
of things on campus, from backpacking with Outdoor Action, to singing in a cappella groups,
Shelby Gai:
amateur filmmaking, community service, break-dancing, bellydancing -- the list goes on and on.
Kevin Chou:
You can clearly see the diversity in Triple 8 through the wide variety of dances we do.
Kevin Chou:
In past years, we've had traditional dances from
Kevin Chou:
Tibet to Vietnam, as well as modern dance styles such as hip-hop,
Kevin Chou:
tango and lyrical. Our show this year will have an
Kevin Chou:
even more eclectic combination. There's always something completely
Kevin Chou:
different to look forward to, and that's what Triple 8's all about.
Su Wang:
Triple 8 is made up of dancers with all different kinds of dance backgrounds. Some people have been dancing
Su Wang:
since they were like two years old, when they started using chopsticks,
Su Wang:
and some people, like me, haven't really danced before until they got to Princeton and joined Triple 8.
Su Wang:
But I think in all these cases, everyone shares the same
Su Wang:
passion and enthusiasm for two things, which is dancing and having fun.

Simona Li:
I think one of the coolest things about Triple 8 is probably the diversity of the choreography available.
Simona Li:
Like for example, I think Amy last year or two years ago choreographed "SexyBack."
Simona Li:
This year, she is doing something completely different -- she's doing a
Simona Li:
traditional dance with metal sticks and people doing cartwheels,
Simona Li:
and you have people learning gymnastics who have never been able
Simona Li:
to even somersault before. I am not one these people.
Simona Li:
Let's see, and last year, we had a tango piece, and this year Theresa is doing a
Simona Li:
dance with Latin music and salsa. Oh my goodness,
Simona Li:
I think it's going to be such a great show!

Triple what? Triple 8!
