Raks Odalisque to perform Middle East dance
Posted March 13, 2009; 06:57 p.m.
Raks Odalisque, a student Middle East dance troupe, will perform its ninth annual show, "A Thousand and One Nights," Thursday through Saturday, March 26-28, at the Frist Campus Center theater.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. all three nights and also at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 28.
The 25-member crew of Raks Odalisque performs a range of styles from traditional to tribal to hip-hop fusion, and it incorporates items such as swords, veils and zills (finger cymbals) into its pieces. "A Thousand and One Nights" tells stories through dance — the passage from traditional to modern, sadness to happiness and imprisoned to freed.
Tickets are available online through University Ticketing, by visiting the Frist Campus Center ticket office or by phone at (609) 258-9220. Admission is free with Tiger Tickets marked "Student Events Eligible," $6 for students and $10 for others.
