Talk to explore community and school gardens

Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 4:30 p.m. Forbes Garden, 79 Alexander St.

The importance of community and school gardens in fostering health, nutrition and self reliance will be the topic of a lecture at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Forbes Garden, 79 Alexander St.

Meredith Taylor, senior project manager for community gardening and nutrition at Isles Inc. in Trenton, will present the talk, titled "Community and School Gardens."

Isles has worked with residents of Trenton to transform vacant, underused land into some 30 gardens where they grow their own food. In addition, Isles has inspired gardens on the grounds of nine Trenton public schools. Isles educates residents, students and teachers, runs cooking workshops, and provides know-how to help in developing the gardens.

The event is sponsored by Princeton Slow Food and by the Princeton Garden Project, which operates a garden on a 1.5-acre lot north of Forbes College.
